Amazing Grace

Yesterday was epic! I got home really late and really tired from a High School mission, which I will share more about later. Since I wasn’t able to post anything yesterday, there will be two posts today.

I went to church yesterday and one of the songs we sang during worship was “Amazing Grace”. I don’t remember the last time, before yesterday of course, that I actually sang all the verses of this song. I absolutely loved it! Anyway, while I have never sang it in full, I know I have sang verse two many times before but, it has never really stood out to me as much as it did.

“Through many dangers, toils and snares

I have already come

‘Twas grace that brought me safe this far

And grace will lead me home.”

One of the biggest focuses in my life right now is trying to settle in to my new life in Kenya, which is taking way longer than in needs to. Six months in, I thought I would be much farther ahead than I currently am. I feel like I’m at a starting point and I just keep waiting for the gun to go off so I can start running, but I keep making false starts and delaying the race. So, singing these words yesterday really seemed to resonate with what I’m feeling and what my right attitude should be in all this.

Philippians 1:6 says, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; Sometimes when you’re trying to look ahead and can’t see clearly, it helps to look back and see how far you’ve come. If you remember the things that grace has brought you through, then you have the hope that grace will keep you going the rest of the way.
