#MyOneWord365 2018: Rejoice!

Happy Wednesday! I’m so excited about this year and the many exciting things I have planned. If you haven’t read my blog before, here’s a little back story. In 2012, God revealed to me that He wanted to give me one word to live by that year. Rather than coming up with a list of resolutions and elaborate plans for what my year would be like, He had me focus on that one word to be more aware of what He was doing in my life. I wrote a recap of what that looked like for the past six years last week.

As I was praying and seeking God about what His word for me this year would be, the promise of joy kept coming up. I know, I’ve already had “Joy” as a word for the year. I think I’ve written more posts about Joy on this blog than anything else through the years. So, I ignored this and kept “looking” for a new word. Then I remembered what God had said about listening to Him and not being tempted to choose my own word.

Over the past few years, I have found it difficult to experience joy. Several “bad” things have happened in my life so far and I feel like I’m scared that if I allow myself to experience joy in the good times, it will be taken away. James 1:2 says, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, “. Easier said than done, right. But, I’m learning to actually obey scripture lately, instead of making excuses and going with my feelings.

I know that 2018 will be the year I experience the most joy I ever have. Not because only good things will happen this year. In fact, I think it might be the most trying year of my life. This year I will choose to be more intentional about finding joy in all things. Which is why my word for the year is a verb; “Rejoice”.

Philippians 4:4 (KJV): ‘Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.’
