Where’s My Christmas Spirit?

It’s 5 days to Christmas and day 20 of my 31-Day writing challenge. Which there’s only 11 days left in 2017. I’m having a little trouble getting into the “Christmas Spirit”. I guess I’m struggling to focus on one thing because I have so many things on my mind. I have some big changes coming up in my life over the next couple of months and thinking about this one holiday that has always just come and gone is proving to be a struggle.

When I started this challenge, I also started a 21-Day Fitness challenge. And for someone who has only about two hours to spare a day, it was a tall order. So, I decided I would have to drop one thing to keep myself from crashing. I chose to drop the fitness challenge because I noticed that instead of making me feel more energized and refreshed, as exercise should, it was stressing me out and draining me physically. Once I’m done with the writing challenge and can go to bed at a decent hour, I’ll get back to it.

Problem is, now, I’ve gotten to the point where I feel like I’m completely out of things to write about. I know this simply isn’t true but, with the little time I have away from my day job and having to put something out every day, I feel like the ideas I have are not getting enough time to marinate into something I’m proud of. But, I guess this was part of the reason for the challenge. I have a tendency to overthink things and take too much time to follow through. By challenging myself to write everyday and have a deadline, I’m having to rely on my initial instincts, which sometimes is the best way to get things done.

In 2018, I plan to keep to the schedule of a weekly blog. If I can complete this challenge successfully I’ll be able to build on the habit of writing every day. That combined with having a week to tweak and perfect my work, should make for much better content.

In the meantime, I need to stop thinking so much about next year and savor the final days I have of 2017. It’s time to get in the Christmas Spirit. Starting with a weekend of hot chocolate and Christmas movies in my PJs. I know it’s not the weekend yet, but I like to plan ahead so…
