Good Morning. Today is a special special day. It’s my first nephew’s 10th birthday. He’s officially a decade old. (Damn that makes me feel old). Anyhu, Happy Birthday to my darling nephew Asher David. May you have a long and prosperous life. Blessings and love to you.
As you may know, we are going through a study of The Fruit of The Spirit. As in Galatians 5 : 22, the second aspect of The Fruit is Joy. At the beginning of the year I chose a word that I would run with this year, a sort of a theme for my year and that word was “joy”. I have been thinking about it, and choosing to focus on Joy has actually helped me to “abide in the vine”.
Life is full of ups and downs. You get through one battle and when you open the next door, a new war is waiting. As I was praying one day, I was reminded that this world is not my home and no matter how many trials and tribulations I go through, I will only truly rest when I finally get to heaven. This made me wonder, is joy even possible then? Then I remembered James 1:2-3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” It still amazes me how every time you read the Word, it always tells you something new, despite the fact that it is one of the oldest books in history. So, I had my answer. Being in Christ is the sure way to experience joy and facing trials only serves to cement this conviction.
So now we’ve seen about experiencing joy within. But, like I’ve said before, The fruit is not meant for the tree, but for others. So how do we bear joy that will be helpful to others. Let’s take an example, if you’re walking down the street, minding your own business and a stranger across the street smiles and waves at you, what is your reaction? Simple, you smile and wave back. The stranger didn’t give you anything or tell you something that made you smile. They just were happy and expressed that joy by sharing some of it with you, and then you were happy. When you have joy, it shows and when you share it, it grows.
Today, no matter what happens, smile. I promise you, the world will smile back.
