John 15 : 16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
A while back I came across a book, Secrets Of The Vine by Bruce Wilkinson. I started to read it and I found it quite eye opening. I didn’t quite finish it though, so I can’t say much about it, but you should definitely check it out. It goes through Jesus’ last words to His disciples in John 15.
Last week I shared with you my one word for the year, “Joy”. As I have written before, Joy is an element of the Fruit of The Spirit and is obtained by “abiding in the vine.” This lead me to Galatians 5 and then back to John 15. In verse 16, Christ tells His disciples that He chose them so that they may bear fruit. He also told them that in order to bear fruit, they needed to remain in him, (Vs 4)”For a branch does not bear fruit on it’s own.” In Galatians 5: 22 , Paul gives us the quality of good fruit, the Fruit of The Spirit against the acts of the flesh.
My word of the year is Joy, but I realised that I cannot seperate the elements of the Fruit of the Spirit. If my word is going to be Joy, then it is also going to be Love, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control. Over the next couple of weeks am going to embark on self evaluation against these elements and share my discoveries in this blog. Stay tuned for my findings. And read Secrets Of The Vine .
